Concealed 1 - Habiba Nowrose
1 ETH
From the Concealed Series, this piece by Habiba Nowrose explores the ‘face’ or ‘mask’ that we put out to the world. Although beautiful in composition, this artwork questions why women in particular are compelled to be beautiful. In the path to avail beauty we are made to strip off our individuality, stories and traumas. Eventually we lose ourselves and be one with that fabricated image. We become anonymous even to ourselves and our identities remain concealed. BIO: As a photographer Habiba Nowrose is particularly interested in subjects that explore human relationship and gender fluidity. Her work is based in portraiture and her philosophy as an artist allows space for many different interpretations. In her artistic process, the objects in the image are as important as the subjects meaning that the process of her image making is psychological and interactive at the same time. Colour is important to her as an artist too, each one has a symbolic meaning in her work
